The King George V Playing Fields, Ashton-under-Lyne, were one of over 470 playing fields setup across the nation, as a lasting memory of King George V, some 75 years ago.
The aim of the Foundation was ‘to promote and to assist in the establishment of playing fields for the use and enjoyment of the people.’
The Friends of King George V Playing fields are not quite as old but we are keen and eager to perpetuate the spirit of scheme.
We now have a ‘small nucleus’ of local residents who are actively involved in promoting the playing fields and are actively promoting opportunities for our local community to ‘get involved’ and work together.
